Mix and match – A deco style or a lifestyle?

Mix and match is not just a decorating style, but a way and stance of life.

Mix and match is not classified as a style that represents specific influences, it has no rules, no guidelines. It is the personal stamp of each individual within the space they live and work. If it is guided by anything, it is guided by rules of freedom and the unique aesthetic of the person who chooses it. As unique as we are ourselves. Because our personal aesthetics mainly express the way we see ourselves and how we want to live. Personal experiences, the people we interact with, the places we travel to, the environment we grew up in, the images we imprint on, and our own personality, are all what shape our aesthetic.

So if we could give a definition of what expresses and shapes mix and match style, this is definitely the way life is seen through our own eyes. A unique way. That is what mix and match is all about. Unique.

We share with you our professional experience and our own aesthetic insights, with tips that will give you ideas on how you can capture your own lifestyle choosing the objects of your living space:

  1. Choose which parts of your space you want to give color to. Create the right color balance. For example, if you want to express yourself with a brightly colorful wall, make sure to “tone down” the intensity of the color with more earthy and light-colored objects around it.
  2. Play with contrasts. After all, contrasts create harmony. For example, if you prefer a modern space in your living room, but you are also a classics lover, don’t hesitate to incorporate them into it. Conversely, a modern statement in a classic space can give a more relaxed and light-hearted feel. Don’t forget, the goal is freedom of choice!
  3. Choose your favorite items and give them a dominant position. Surely among the decorative items you have, there are those you don’t want to exclude at all. So place your favorites in the spot you desire and make sure not to surround them with details that make it difficult to see its value and beauty. Start with one central piece and figure out which pieces will complement it harmoniously.
  4. Choose the style you want to dominate. It’s certain that this will create a disparity between the different styles you match, and that’s exactly what you want to ensure mix and match! There is no need for a strict ratio because that doesn’t align with the terms of mix and match. What is needed is one dominant style, amongst the rest.
  5. Combine different materials and patterns. Our advice is not to commit to one material, for example metal. A variety of materials such as wood, metal, or marble can create a unique effect. A marble surface harmoniously accommodates wooden shelves and metal ornaments, and the same goes for different shades and textures. But make sure you keep in mind the degree of intensity you want to achieve!
  6. Pay attention to the proportion of objects. Let loose and combine your heavy – classic sofa with a small coffee table, or your square industrial table with a round 70’s rug. Play with proportions and trust your instincts!

You mix and match anyway and that’s how you make your own style.

As long as this creates a sense of harmony and reflects your personality!
